Have you heard of microgreens? Microgreens are simply the first leaves of the vegetables that you know! They are small in stature but contain high levels of powerful vitamins, minerals, and health-supporting components.

Presented by Joyce Lewis, Grant Coordinator from the Ogle County Health Department, participants will learn how to grow microgreens and explore creative ways to incorporate them into their diets through engaging hands-on classes. Each participant will receive a FREE passive microgreen kit to grow their own microgreens at home – year round! The kit contains a mini grow light, a microgreen tray, nutrients for water, a seed packet, and all the information needed for success. Valued at $100.

Spice of the Month: Turmeric

Turmeric is the dried knobby shaped rhizome of the plant Curcuma longa. Noted for its bright yellow color, it is related to and similar in appearance to ginger. In many languages, the name “turmeric” literally means “yellow root”. Stop at the circulation desk for your sample of turmeric and some fun, new recipes!
