History of Camp Grant

Presented by Midway Village Museum: Come hear about the history of Camp Grant. Built in 1917 and used through World War II, tens of thousands of recruits trained at Camp Grant. Particularly notable was the arrival of over 13,000 African American soldiers, a dramatic demographic shift for a community with only 200 black residents before the war. Camp Grant also became a center for the training of medical personnel and the housing of prisoners of war.

In Save Me by Lisa Scottoline, an explosion happens in a school cafeteria, and Rose McKenna must decide to rescue her own daughter or another child. When the truth comes out about her choice, Rose becomes a villain in her town. Her own daughter goes back to school while the girl Rose rescued is still in the hospital.
